Longest Reigning NSW Showgirl?

Robertson Show Society's third Land Showgirl Competition was held this year with six entrants, four of the girls from Robertson and the other two from Moss Vale and Welby.

The girls were presented to the judges and invited guests at a dinner hosted by the Robertson Show Society, at the Robertson Bowling Club. The three judges were Bruce Jonson, Diane Ford and Juanita Risi, who all maintained that the competition was very even and the girls were all very well presented and charming. Judging was based on presentation, public speaking, local knowledge, deportment, manners, social graces and the ability to interact with invited guests on the night.

The Showgirls were presented to the show patrons on Saturday, 7th March, at the Show, and Jess Maloney was announced 2009 Showgirl, with Amy Stratford the runner up.

The six girls received beautifully presented gifts from Robertson Perfume & Skincare Company, as well as vouchers from Eden Beauty, Robertson, Robertson Post Office - Kakadu Wear, Bobby Pins Hair Salon, Robertson, Robertson Show Society and bouquets from Annette's Florist, Moss Vale

Robertson Showgirl 2009, Jessica Maloney (19) Moss Vale

Jess comes from a well known local family, with very strong connections to the Robertson Show over many decades.

After completing Year 12 at Chevalier College, Bowral, she went on to work as a jillaroo.

Jess enjoys varied agricultural pursuits, including showing cattle (she was placed second in the Beef Cattle Junior Paraders at Robertson Show in 2008) and horse riding, but she also loves going out and having fun, along with bike riding and hockey.

She is a keen volunteer and has been a door knocker in the St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal and helped with Riding for the Disabled, as well as being a volunteer riding instructor with the Moss Vale Pony Club.

Jess's ambitions are to attend University in 2010, become a Rural Fire Fighter and manage a cattle stud.

Jess entered the Showgirl competition to support her local show, and to experience involvement in areas of show life other than cattle and horse showing.

Runner-up, Amy Stratford, 2009 Showgirl Jess Maloney, with 2008 Showgirl, Amy-Kate Tilley

Runner-up, Amy Stratford (18) Robertson

Amy has been helping out at the Show for a number of years now, originally as a way to have the day off school, but that wasn't the easy day she thought it would be, as her mother, Leesa, the Show Secretary, made her and brother Brayden work for their day off!

Her reason for becoming a Showgirl was to support the Show Society and to participate in a unique community experience.

Amy was educated at Robertson Public School, then gained her HSC at Moss Vale High School. Presently, she is working at the Perfume And Skin Care shop in Robertson, whilst doing a Business Administration course at the Moss Vale Tafe Campus

Her interests include dirt bike riding and motocross as well as camping, especially in the local area. More genteel hobbies include art, painting, drawing and general design. Hockey features high in her sporting interests, which she played in the local Robertson Club. Amy also participated in the First Robertson Scout Group.

After she complete her traineeship, Amy wants to gain a Diploma and then open a business in the local area.

Renee Masters (21) Robertson

Local girl, Renee, was educated at Robertson Public School, then gained her HSC at Moss Vale High School. Her Tertiary educational achievements include Animal Studies, Certificate 2 at Nowra Tafe and a Vet Nursing Certificate 4 at Yallah Tafe and she is currently working as a Veterinary Nurse.

She enjoys many active sports including waterskiing, wakeboarding, snow skiing and played 3rd Grade Hockey with the Robertson Womens' Team for 5 years. Relaxing pursuits are going to the movies and walking her dog, as well as watching and supporting the Spuddies Rugby League Team.

Renee has worked for the Robo Show, notably manning the gates, which is a strenuous stamina testing job. She also helps out with football club events and fundraisers.

Renee says "I've always loved animals and wanted to work with them. My goal is to work and study in a zoo establishment. I wish to work on a husbandry program with exotic cats"

Her reason for becoming a Showgirl? "I 'caved' after being asked many times", but she also wanted to do something with her friends for the community.

Emmily Fitzgerald (20) Robertson

Emmily has lived in Robertson all her life, gaining her education at Robertson Public School then Moss vale High School, where she attended till year 11.

She has a Statement of Attainment in Bookkeeping and completed a Certificate 3 in Business Administration, which she passed with distinction.

Her work experience includes having worked in the Robertson Butcher's Shop and is at present is a training in Real Estate at Robertson.

Her interests include riding her motor bike, going for long drives, watching the Spuddies (our local Rugby League Football Team) and spending time at the beach with friends, as well as enjoying a spot of retail therapy.

Emmily's Community Involvement covers such diverse areas as helping with Scouts and helping with marketing, fundraising and promotion of the Spuddies Football Team.

Her ambitions are to be successful and happy.

Maddie Hayes (20) Welby

Maddie joined our other Showgirl entrants "for the experience", which she found most enjoyable

She comes from Welby, near Mittagong, NSW, where she lives with her parents.

Schooling was completed after year 10 at Moss Vale High School and she then went on to achieve her Certificate 3 in Hairdressing and completed her Apprenticeship with a local Robertson hairdresser.

Maddie enjoys volleyball, motorbike riding, 4 wheel driving, going to the beach and hanging out with friends, as well as shopping.

Her ambitions are to own her own hairdressing salon, and for it to be successful. These dreams look to be coming true as she has invested in a salon at Bundanoon, and we wish her well in her venture.

Priscilla Noble (20) Robertson

After attending school in Robertson beginning with Pre-School through to primary at Robertson Public School, then finishing her education at Year 10 at Moss Vale High School, Priscilla is now "back in town" and working as a bakery assistant.

She gained a Statement of Attainment in Bookeeping at Tafe in 2006, then a Certificate 3 in Business Administration in 2007. pasing both with distinction.

Cilla sells Avon, loves socialising with friends AND shopping! She loves to make everyone smile and thoroughly enjoys living on the farm with her boyfriend Brad.

She is a keen football fan and strongly supports the local team, never missing a game, as well as "the Great Newcastle Knights". Priscilla also enjoys walking and fun, non-competitive games.

One of her greatest passions is children, and having her own family is a priority. When her own were old enough Cilla would like to help any children in need.

The conviction that it would be a great thing to do to promote her community encouraged Priscilla to become a Showgirl.

SHOWGIRLS WANTED

The Show Society is very keen to host the Showgirl Competition again in 2010 and looks forward to hearing from girls who may be interested in entering this very rewarding event.

Although it is twelve months to the next Show, it is worthwhile considering the competition now. The Show Society will help and advise with various events, so that you can gain valuable experiences and skills which will help with confidence, local knowledge, public speaking and other social graces. We would like to organise outings which could encompass different rural and social activities, and help with any possible worries you may have.

Entrants must be aged between 18 - 24 years of age, and may be married or single.

This is not a beauty or talent competition. We are looking for young ladies to represent the Robertson Show and to promote country shows in general. Girls do not have to be "born on the farm", as long as they live outside the Sydney Metropolitan area, and they do not have to be employed in a rural occupation.

They may be anything from nurses, teachers, students, hairdressers, in fact any walk of life is fine.
